QHB’s Mission, Vision, and Values
Refreshed for the Future!
Over the past few months, we’ve taken some time to revisit how we describe the work of Queer History Boston.
Our mission hasn’t changed: we’re still here to document, preserve, and share LGBTQ+ history in Greater Boston and New England. But we realized we could say a few things more clearly and be more explicit about the principles guiding our work.
So we’ve refreshed our mission, vision, and values. Think of it less as a new direction and more as sharpening the language around what has always mattered to us.
In particular, we’re doubling down on four core values that shape how we approach our work:
Stewardship – Caring for queer and trans history with the responsibility and rigor it deserves.
Authenticity – Honoring the full complexity of LGBTQ+ lives and histories.
Collaboration – Building history together with our community, volunteers, and partners.
Solidarity – Using history to strengthen collective liberation and empower people to take action.
